Joel Saunders
I am a recent Mechatronic Systems Engineering graduate from Simon Fraser University. My focus lies in embedded systems, electronics, and firmware development, from PCB design and hardware bring-up to real-time software and system validation. I enjoy working across the full stack of an electrical system, and am drawn to roles where hardware and software meet in a tangible, physical product.
Most recently, I worked as an Embedded Systems Engineer at Dometic, where I developed firmware for real-time embedded systems, built a HIL testing framework using CAN message spoofing to validate firmware under realistic conditions, and performed root-cause analysis on hardware failures down to the component level, including board bring-up, thermal imaging, and signal-level debugging. Prior to that, I worked as a Service Engineer at Ballard Power Systems, where I developed maintenance procedures and documentation standards for hydrogen fuel cell components.
I have experience taking projects from requirements through to validated prototypes, and have held leadership roles in teams with up to 20 members.
Please see the Projects tab for a full view of my work.
